Fortifications: Motte-and-Bailey with ditches and ramparts

A standard motte-and-bailey castle with a wooden palisade surrounding the adjacent town of Exeter, situated on the Exe River. This was the main defensive position of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall before he was defeated in Siege of Terrabil in 491.

The castle is well defended and Uther keeps a large garrison at the castle at all times.

Important events:

  • 491: Siege of Terrabil, King Uther besieges the castle in an effort to defeat Duke Gorlois of Cornwall. The Duke attacks the besieging camp in the middle of the night, but Uther’s troops manages to turn the tide and storms the castle.
